#Ukrainian drone strike kills 1 in southern Russia and triggers fire at sea terminal.

KYIV, Ukraine — A Ukrainian drone attack killed one person and injured three in Russia’s southern Krasnodar region, local officials said Saturday, as part of Kyiv’s campaign of strikes on military and energy targets deep inside Russia.

Drone debris sparked a fire at a sea terminal, local Gov. Veniamin Kondratyev said. He did not give details, but Russian news outlets reported that a Black Sea export terminal transporting terminal crude oil, petroleum products and liquefied gas in the village of Volna was damaged.

Ukraine’s General Staff did not comment on the Krasnodar strike Saturday, but said that its forces had hit an oil preparation and pumping station overnight in Russia’s Volgograd region, as well as Russian-occupied areas in Ukraine’s Donetsk and Zaporizhzhia regions.

The attack comes after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said his country’s forces had struck several military and energy infrastructure sites deep inside Russia, including a military factory that he said supplied components for Russian drones and missiles.

He said Wednesday that Ukrainian FP-5 Flamingo long-range missiles had hit the facility in Cheboksary, in the Chuvashiya region, more than 900 kilometres (560 miles) from the front line.

More than four years since the start of Russia’s full scale invasion of Ukraine, the more than 1,000-kilometre (620-mile) front line has remained largely static as swarms of drones hinder advances. As a result, both sides have increasingly relied on long-range strikes.

Last week, Russian President Vladimir Putin vowed to strengthen air defenses after Ukrainian attacks set ablaze an oil terminal in St. Petersburg and also hit a nearby naval base, casting a cloud over a showcase economic forum in his hometown.

Elsewhere, Russian attacks injured nine people in Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk region, setting fire to a local marketplace, regional authorities said.

Russia attacked three districts of the region more than 20 times with drones and aerial bombs, according to regional head Oleksandr Hanzha in a Telegram post on Saturday. Six were hospitalized including a man in critical condition, he added.

Fire sweeps through a New Delhi building, killing at least 21 people. The building in the Malviya Nagar neighbourhood in the southern part of the city had a restaurant on the ground floor and a hotel above. The predominantly residential area is densely populated and is popular with students and young professionals.

The blaze was extinguished with the help of eight fire engines, and more than 40 people were rescued and taken to nearby hospitals, Delhi police said in a statement.

The cause of the blaze was not immediately known.

Images from the scene showed firefighters trying to douse the blaze as thick smoke billowed from the building. Some people trapped inside were seen hanging from windows and shouting for help as flames and smoke swept through parts of the building.

Local residents also joined rescue efforts, helping evacuate people trapped inside and carrying some of the injured to safety.

Some of the victims were foreign nationals who had travelled to India for medical treatment, local media reported. Many foreign patients travel to New Delhi for medical treatment and often stay in nearby hotels or residential accommodation during their visits.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences over the deaths, his office said in a post on X. It also said that the families of those killed would receive 200,000 rupees (US$2,088) each in financial assistance.

Fires are common in India, where building laws and safety norms are often flouted by builders and residents.

NEW YORK, August 31. #US Special Presidential Envoy Steve Witkoff reports directly to Donald Trump on his talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin and other leaders, The Wall Street Journal reported.

According to the newspaper, "Witkoff often calls Trump immediately after meeting Russian President Vladimir Putin and other leaders." However, summaries of those conversations rarely filter through to the government, the Wall Street Journal added.

"We don't expect anything more" from Witkoff than briefings for Trump and the senior national security team, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told the paper.

Witkoff said in an interview with Fox News on August 19 that he had spent close to 24-25 hours in meetings with Putin and members of his inner circle. The US envoy has made several trips to Russia, meeting with the country’s leadership, including the head of state. The parties particularly discussed ways to resolve the Ukraine conflict.

President Trump's recent executive order promoting commercial space competition highlights America's unique advantage in the final frontier: our dynamic commercial space sector. American companies such as SpaceX, Planet Labs and Sierra Space are rewriting the rules of space access and operations. But as we celebrate these achievements, we must acknowledge a difficult truth: the United States lacks a coherent, economically informed strategy for allocating responsibilities between the private and public sectors in space.
